Cougar 600M Gaming Mouse Review

Performance

Sensor performance on the 600M is very good. The lift-off height is under 2mm and there is no pointer acceleration, although you can enable acceleration if you wanted (not sure who would want to). The Sensor feels very quick and precise when navigating and while there is a little bit of jitter at higher DPI settings, the mouse still performed exceptionally well.

Need to get ultra-accurate aiming? The sniper button feature can drop the DPI to any setting you require. I set it to the lowest setting available, 50 DPI.

The software is really well designed, it’s easy to find all the major features and make quick adjustments to profile settings. All settings can be stored to the mouse, meaning the 600M is tournament friendly.

The light strip is just under the LMB, it looks pretty cool without being overbearing. The orange mouse doesn’t suit many other colours other than orange, but I imagine the lighting effect will be more prominent on the black version of the 600M.

The 600M may look a little garish, but its performance is nothing short of beautiful. The sensor is fast and precise, making it suitable for any type of gaming; although there are noticeable benefits to FPS gaming more than anything. One thing that really stands out about this mouse is how well it glides. It’s as slick as ice and that means that making tiny adjustments while gaming is very easy. The mouse looks like it has been designed for palm rest play styles, but it is in fact a claw-grip mouse and the ergonomics don’t really allow for palm rest play styles.

Programmable buttons are a welcome bonus, as you can re-map the entire mouse to your liking. The button on the 600M’s left-wing is undefined by default, but I set it to the sniper function; perfect for accurate headshots.

The only thing I don’t like about the 600M is that it’s a pretty hardcore gaming mouse. It doesn’t lend its self to day to day desktop use. I’m sure a lot of people will love it all-round, but I prefer a palm rest mouse for long hours working. If you want a blazing gaming mouse, the 600M fits the bill, if you want a mouse you can kick back and relax with while browsing the web, then you may want to look elsewhere.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
