Cougar Armor S Gaming Chair Review

Performance

First things first, this is a stunning looking chair. I’ll admit, the design is hardly a revolution or anything, but it’s hitting all the right market trends, and I think that’s absolutely fine. What does strike me are the colours. The contrasting black and orange really pop and it’s a welcome break from the more often black/grey chairs that are out there. That and some of the more colourful cheaper brands tend to look too garish and gamer, but while hardly a quiet-looking design, Cougar’s effort looks more stylish to me.

The overall quality of the stitching is excellent, colour matching the orange and really delivering on making this a more premium product.

Of course, that’s all matched up with the stitching on the cushions too, adding to that striking design.

There’s some nice stitching on the backrest too, giving it this classic diamond look. However, far from just looks, this can also improve the comfort and breathability of the surface.

The chair is made from a sturdy metal frame with PVC leather over the top. It feels robust and like it’ll last a long time, which is obviously a good thing. However, what does surprise me is that it’s not too heavy. Sure, it’s heavier than your bulk produced cheap gaming chairs, but at around 20KG, it’s a lot lighter than something like a noblechair product, albeit, it’s about half the price too. This is an advantage though if you like a more nimble chair that’s easily rolled around, this is ideal. There’s a great range of movement in this chair too, with a nice low setting on the gas lift. While on the higher settings, I can have my feet just off of the ground, if that’s what I wish.

There’s a full 90-degree tilt on the backrest too, so you can lay almost flat if you desire. Although I must admit it just feels weird doing so, I always feel like I will tip backwards. That being said, the chair didn’t feel like it was going to tip, it’s very stable actually.

The armrests are height adjustable and can be moved sideways and front to back. So you can have them low and close like this.

Or pushed right out and up like this.

They may also be rotated in and out too, which is neat!

The chair has a good width to it, I’m not a particularly wide person, not after working off my lockdown body anyway. However, there’s a good amount of space here so sit with my legs crossed in the chair.

The side wings may be a bit restricting to some people though, but they’re padded and angled outwards, so they’re not as restricting as you might think, and generally just promote a more snug seating position overall.

The same goes for the backrest, the chair wraps around you a little, promoting good posture, but also rewarding it with some comfortable padding.
