The GX-series comes in five different wattages ranging from 600W to 1050W, I will be taking a look at the mid-range 800W unit. Looking at the power table, we can see that the unit outputs a total of 792W through its 12V rails which means that the unit is capable of providing almost all of it’s power to the all-important components such as graphics cards and CPUs when required. All the PSUs up to 800W use a quad-12V rail design while the 900W and 1050W units use a hex-12V rail design. This ensures that none of the 12V rails on any unit exceeds 25A which lowers manufacturing costs and makes the unit more reliable; however it does require some basic knowledge from the user to be able to balance the rails.
There is a fantastic selection of modular cables included which allows you to power a massive array of components. The unit has 4x PCIe (6+2) connectors to allow high-end graphics cards to be used in a duel SLI/XFire configuration which is just right for a unit of this wattage. One thing that really confused me was their choice for CPU power connectors, instead of using just a 4+4-Pin connector (or a 8-pin and 4+2 for boards that require 2 EPS connectors) it uses an 8-pin connector, a 4+4-pin connector and a 4-pin connector. This does allow for boards requiring a duel 8-pin EPS connector to be supported, however the lone 4-pin connector is virtually redundant as there is a 4+4-pin connector included. This leaves the user with a bit of a struggle when it comes to cable management!
