How Much Does it Cost?

The Cougar Puri is available now, but stock seems a little low due to its popularity. Various switch types are available at different stores, so you may need to shop around for those too. There’s one on Amazon UK for £85, but I have seen them a little cheaper, and there’s the TKL version for £10 less than that too. In the US, it’s the same deal with a bit of a mixture of models and stock. However, you can expect to pay around $60-80.

Overview

There are so many mechanical keyboards out there that it’s hard to pick the one that is right for you. The market really is leaving us spoilt for choice, so brands have to offer something unique to stand out from the crowd. Fortunately, Cougar has done just that. Little details such as the triple-level kickstand adjustment, the magnetic hardcover, and the removable cable all add up. It might not sound like a much, but there are plenty of keyboards around the same price that haven’t got those features.

Quality

Honestly, it’s robust from front to back, inside and out. Cougar are not new to the market, they know how to build as good a keyboard like any other big name brand. Plus, with Cherry MX switches, there is no doubt about the quality and performance there. Furthermore, having a choice of switch types will allow you to find your favourite easily enough.

Style

The black plastics on this keyboard are a bit darker than most brands. It seems the market has shifted to a more grey looking plastic for most of their peripherals. However, this one is really dark looking and I love how that provides a strong contrast for the RGB lighting. It’s not the most complex RGB engine in the world, but since you can control it all from the keyboard, I’m more than happy with it. I only dial in a single colour and leave it there anyway, and that’s easily done here. The cable is a good quality braided one too, it looks nice. However, since it’s removable, you can substitute your own cable too, which is great.

Should I Buy One?

At this price, you’re hardly left short of options. However, Cougar has a great keyboard on offer here with some minor yet very welcome unique features. The hardcover is really my favourite though, it’s durable, keeps the keyboard clean and even protects the keyboard while you’re travelling with it. Of course, great performance, style, and build quality give Cougar plenty to shout about too.
