Cougar Revenger RGB 12k DPI Optical Gaming Mouse Review

A Closer Look & Performance

The Cougar Revenger already has a pretty cool sounding product name. Fortunately, Cougar has created a pretty awesome looking gaming mouse to live up to that name. It has this cool granite textured look about it that just oozes premium quality. It has a rather cool shape to it too, I mean, it’s still a mouse, but they’ve put their own spin on the angles and the huge central cut-out that it really does have its own style.

Scrollin’

The scroll wheel alone is absolutely massive and has a super soft rubber grip coating to allow for easier control. You can really hang your finger over it too, as the cable isn’t mounted in the middle of the mouse. Because it’s off to the side, you have a lot more freedom on that wheel, which is really neat. There are even two sturdy-looking metal supports on each side of it, I don’t know what they do, perhaps they’re purely aesthetic, but they look great.

Grip and Slide

The side of the mouse features a massive section of honeycomb texture. It’s actually moulded into the harder plastics, rather than being a soft rubber grip. This should mean it last a very long time and not wear off. Of course, the trade-off is that it’s not quite as grippy as it looks. However, because of the ergonomic shape, it actually is easy to grip and even lift the mouse with minimal effort.

The enlarged side buttons are great too, as they make it easier to trigger them with a simple slide, rather than always using a push motion. Then you also have the three LED’s towards the front, which are used to indicate DPI/profile level.

Towards the back of the mouse, you’ll find the Cougar logo etched into the top panel. Of course, it’s fully RGB lit.

Plus, recessed into the back, you’ll also find an RGB lightbar just hidden out of sight. Of course, we’ll power those lights up shortly.

Trigger

The DPI button is by far one of the most unique aspects of this mouse. It’s fully programmable, so while it is used for DPI by default, you can change that. You can have it fully change profiles, macros and more. However, it’s set like the trigger of a weapon, so you pull it back rather than simply press it down.

It works really well too, and the design means it sits flush with the top of the mouse rather than a button stuck on the top. It gives the mouse a smoother and more comfortable feel in your hand, which is great.

PWM

The true power of this mouse, however, lies in the PWM 3360 sensor. It’s already known to be a fantastic sensor, and there’s a reason why it’s in most of the top gaming mice on the market today. Huge DPI range, great customisation and tuning capabilities, and flawless performance. This is helped even further by the fantastic anti-friction pads. There’s a lot of them here, meaning the Revenger will glide on soft cloth and hard mat surfaces with ease.

RGB

The Cougar Revenger is packed with a RGB lighting. Albeit, it is one of the few mice that doesn’t have RGB in the scroll wheel. As you can see, it does have RGB on the side indicator lights, and two more lights at the back on the logo and lightbar. The colours are absolutely fantastic too, really vivid, but diffused so that they’re not right in your face.

While you can leave it on rainbow effects and fades, which I’m sure some of you will enjoy, it can be more practical too. You can set colours based on profiles, macros and DPI levels. At least that way, you know what your mouse is doing at a glance, rather than having to press a button to find out which profile you have.

The ergonomic shape is tuned for right-handed users only, but it is very comfortable. It’s a little bigger than most mice, which is something I prefer. I like a full palm grip and a very relaxed hand while I’m gaming. However, thanks to the side grips, it’s pretty flexible for fingertip and clawgrip playstyles too.

The smooth shape of the back of the mouse fits into your palm very well, and you can comfortably butt your wrist against it with other grip styles too.

Oh, and let’s have a couple of junk in the trunk RGB shots while we’re here. How good are those colours!

Overall, super comfortable, it tracks perfectly, and it looks fantastic. What more can I say!
