PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players were in for a surprise over the weekend upon discovering that cross-platform play is now possible on Fortnite. This feature is not publicized yet, but many players have been posting proof after proof on the /r/FORTnITE reddit group. User /u/PRE_-CISION-_ made the discovery after getting killed by a gamer with an odd tag “zCypher Nine”. This is odd for PlayStation users since spaces are not possible with PS4 tags. It would have had an underscore instead. So he went to Twitch and found verification from a livestream that he was indeed on a different console.
Many were skeptical at first, which is completely understandable. The fact that this is a big development but yet is unannounced is one thing. Also, there is cross-platform play for PS4 and PC, so those who were seeing usernames which are not on the PlayStation network could just be seeing PC users.
The debate is finally laid to rest when reddit user /u/PyroBlack76 posted a photo of a PS4 playing with an Xbox One side-by-side. The father and kid gaming duo shows their Fortnite characters back to back in-game, on two different TVs and systems.
