Pricing (accurate at the time of writing)
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB 2400MHz memory kit is currently available in the UK for £139.99 from OverclockersUK and for $179.99USD from Newegg. DDR4 RAM prices seem to have dropped fairly quickly in recent months. I remember looking at buying a budget 16GB memory kit not too long ago that was over £200.
Summary
The Crucial Ballistix Sport 2400MHz kit is the perfect way to start your DDR4 journey if you want a little bit of colour over the stock green PCB’s. It held its own in our benchmarking, giving results placing it around the centre of the graphs and sometimes topping the chart.
The performance we saw was very middle of the road, which is where we expected it to land for its price. In some benchmarks, we saw better performance compared to a higher rated set, the Corsair Vengeance LPX 2800MHz, which is extremely good for a memory kit that costs under £140.
The overclock on this set was a little less than I thought we could have achieved, but no matter what we adjusted in the BIOS, an overclock higher than 2666MHz just wasn’t achievable. It’s a shame that they don’t produce a slower set (2133MHz) to bring the price down a little, this would really make this kit a lot more attractive to budget buyers.
Pros
- Low profile design
- Lifetime warranty
- Good price/ performance ratio
Cons
- Overclocking was limited
“Crucial Ballistix Sport memory kit is an excellent entry option into the DDR4 game, with a simple heatsink, low power consumption and competitive pricing.”
