Final Thoughts

Pricing (accurate at the time of writing)

Crucial sell their Ballistix Sport XT 32GB 1866MHz quad channel memory kit on their own web-store for £257.99 in the UK, $363.99 in the USA and €326.39 in Europe. From more traditional retailers you can also find this Crucial product such as for $334.99 at Newegg and $363.99 at Amazon. Crucial provide a lifetime warranty with this product.

Summary

Crucial’s Ballistix Sport XT 32GB quad channel kit is a solid performer as I’ve come to expect from Crucial memory products. In our testing it performed very well and performed even better when overclocked – which isn’t as stupid as it sounds because some memory modules decline in performance as you overclock them. The price is right with Crucial’s memory kits: they come competitively priced for what you get and you’ll very often find they are among the cheapest out there. Furthermore, Crucial offer a wide range of capacities and a lifetime warranty making these kits great purchases for most buyers.

Of course the other side of the story is that the aesthetic design could be a lot better. Crucial should pay some more attention to the overall looks because I think the choice of colour, the light blue heatsink and green PCB, do not have mass appeal. These modules are aimed more at the user who wants straight up value for money and isn’t too fussed about looks. I also think Crucial should offer some faster kits because 1866 is quite modest, although for real-world applications there isn’t much performance scaling beyond 1866MHz, and there’s virtually nothing beyond 2133MHz, so this doesn’t concern me too much.

Pros

  • Competitive pricing
  • Good performance & overclocking
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • Aesthetics could be better
  • Higher frequencies would be nice

“Competitive pricing, reliable performance and a lifetime warranty make Crucial’s Ballistix Sport XT DDR3 modules a solid choice for any desktop user.”
