Crucial Ballistix Tactical DDR3 1866MHz 8GB Memory Kit Review

Its not that often that we look at at an older product on the market, however its always good to see how they still fair with respect to the latest and greatest products, making us ask the question if we really have to spend out for the latest gear and not something that’s a generation or two old. Whilst the styling on the kits isn’t quite what I’d call upto date in respect to design, but I do like it all the same.
On a performance level, we know this kit is aimed at the mainstream gamer and performance enthusiast so its good to see that even at stock speeds, the performance that we see isn’t actually that bad. Everyone wants a little bit extra for their money however and to see this kit easily push past 2133MHz with ease does make its price point that little bit more appealing to those who are on a strict budget, when it comes to upgrading or even when building their first system, not wanting to spend huge amount just in case they make a mistake somewhere and something goes wrong.
When the kit came out around this time last year, we were seeing it on the shelves for around the £70-80 mark, however looking at prices today and knowing how quickly memory kits depreciate once off the shelf, you can now find this kit on the shelves priced in the region of £20-35 which makes it a cracking deal, especially here in the UK with high prices on everything else such as fuel, it’s nice to be able to save a bit of money elsewhere, yet still get a quality product.
Bottom line, if you’re wanting to keep the cost of building or upgrading your system down yet still want to get a kit that performs well, the Ballistix Tactical may not be top of the line but it still packs a good amount of performance for the price.
