Crucial Preparing To Launch 12GB DDR5 SODIMM’s

Memory sizes have changed a bit in recent times thanks to the new 24GB and 48GB capacity modules leading to the possibility of up to 192GB of memory using 4x48GB sticks. These sticks are referred to as “non-binary” modules as they go against the binary sequence of numbers 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128. Today a new SODIMM module has been spotted with a 12GB capacity from Crucial.

12GB SODIMM Modules

A new 12GB DDR5 SODIMM module from Crucial was shared by momomo_us which will allow laptops to utilise 12GB or 24GB as 8GB is soon becoming a tough sell for even basic laptops. A listing has been spotted on Amazon UK for these modules for both a single 12GB stick at 4800 MHz, 5200 MHz, or 5600 MHz as well as a listing for a 2x12GB kit at the same speeds.

The kits are available for pre-order for a price of £44.99 for a single stick and £87.99 for a dual kit and will be released on March 31st 2024.

This kit would mark the first 12GB capacity module and I’m sure many other manufacturers will follow suit with this capacity and maybe even for standard desktop DDR5. 24GB could be the new 16GB as that is becoming a minimum for most modern gaming PCs.
