Crucial Reveals New DDR4 Server Memory

Crucial’s server memory lineup has received two new additions in the form of 32 GB DDR4 VLP RDIMMs and 64 GB DDR4 LRDIMMs, both of which are quite impressive in their own way. Featuring speeds of 2400 MT/s, these DDR4 server memories feature high densities, as the company has decided to create single 16 Gb components by stacking two 8 Gb DDR4 DRAM dies. The result is increased memory density as well as improved bandwidth and overall performance, which is definitely a step in the right direction. The Crucial 32 GB VLP RDIMMs are almost half the height of a regular RDIMM module, which makes them a perfect choice for blade servers and microservers, especially since they can be installed at a 90-degree angle to the motherboard.

As for the 64 GB LRDIMM, it is the highest density Crucial server module so far, and it is based on a memory buffer chip that presents a single logical rank to the server in order to permit the population of more DIMMs without sacrificing on memory bandwidth. Both the 32 GB DDR4 16 Gb-based VLP RDIMMs and 64 GB DDR4 16 Gb-based LRDIMMs are optimized for Intel’s Xeon E5-2600 v4 processor family, and they are backed by limited lifetime warranties.

What do you think about these new Crucial server DDR4 memory modules?
