CryEngine has long been a poster child for high-end graphics technology, so it comes as little surprise that the next two updates to the legendary game engine will come with support for the latest and greatest tech on the market, and new ways to make the best of it.
Crytek revealed that version 5.3 will be launching in mid-November, a month later than was originally intended, but the wait should be worth it. The latest CryEngine will add support for the Vulkan API, something that I’m sure many developers are looking forward to implementing. You’ll also find improved Smooth Shadow Filtering, Env Probes workflow improvements, SVOGI improvements, as well as other performance and management tweaks.
Still not enough? CryEngine 5.3 should also be launching in March 2016 and that update will bring support for DirectX 12, as well as support for DirectX 12 native mGPU.
It’ll be interesting to see which developers use the new features to update existing products, and which new games will side with Vulcan/DX12 in upcoming releases given the popularity of CryEngine.
