As we have noted on many occasions prior in this review, the Cryorig M9 Plus is a compact CPU cooler. Without meaning to sound patronising for those familiar with the terms, we should re-iterate that this cooler is a lot smaller than your standard air-cooler. As such, you do have to limit your expectations as to how this is going to cool a CPU. It isn’t, for example, going to compete with the juggernaut that is the Noctua NH-D15S.
So, how does it do? Well, for such a little cooler, surprisingly well. In terms of operating temperature, there are, of course, limits. For example, while the Cryorig M9 Plus easily handles stock temperatures (finding itself respectively mid-table) when pushed in an overclock it clearly struggles to manage things as well.
Similarly, while stock noise levels are good, those little fans have to work a lot harder to keep things cool when overclocked. Despite that though, they have avoided the usual pitfall of a small fan in that despite it having to work hard, it’s never overly noisy.
When you consider what this cooler is though, you are not (or at least should not) be buying this for overclocking. Is it capable of overclocking? Yes! Does it excel in that area? No.
This cooler is clearly suited to normal operating modes on a PC, but when you consider just how well it does in that remit, the Cryorig M9 Plus is very impressive indeed.
