Cryorig R1 Ultimate Dual Tower Cooler Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Cryorig R1 Ultimate is a high-end cooler and comes with the high-end price to match. We’ve seen them go for as much as £90 here in the UK, but if you shop around you can find them close to £70. Unfortunately, UK stock seems a little hard to find, so you may have to dig for a while till you find the right deal, as any more than £70-ish, you’ll be paying more than the rival Dark Rock Pro 3 or NH-D15.

Overview

I adore this cooler, it’s easily one of the best air coolers on the market today, and while it does have some strong competition from be quiet! and Noctua, it manages to hold its own pretty well. With stock clocks, this cooler is complete overkill but does come with the advantage of low noise thanks to its large fans. It’s no slouch when overclocking, managing to beat out the equally large Dark Rock Pro 3 from be quiet! although the latter still has the advantage when it comes to acoustics. It’s not far off the Noctua performance either, but for those who aren’t fond of the Noctua styling, the R1 Ultimate is much more aggressive and exciting looking.

Build quality is flawless, with durable fins on the cooling towers, thick and well laid out heat pipes, a thick and polished contact plate for the CPU, a durable and easy to install mounting system, premium grade fans, braided cables… the list goes on and on. We honestly can’t find a single fault with this coolers construction and design, it’s as good as it gets.

Credit to Cryorig for their packaging too, and the fact that all the tools you need to install your cooler are included, such as the screwdriver, alcohol cleaning wipe, thermal paste and more. It’s little attentions to detail like this that make the product feel like a premium experience and worthy of the premium price tag.

The Customod covers are really slick too, allowing you to tailor the design to your system build, and with orange, green, blue, red, black and white on offer, you should find the ideal colour for your build quite easily.

Pros

  • Exceptional build quality
  • Competitive overclocking performance
  • Stylish design
  • Customod covers
  • Similar price to high-end be quiet! and Noctua coolers
  • Very easy to install

Cons

  • Limited availability (UK)

Neutral

  • Rival high-end air coolers are quieter, but the R1 is still very quiet

“The Cryorig R1 Ultimate is one of the biggest and best air coolers on the market today, offering great overclocking performance, quiet acoustics, and a very stylish design that is sure to look great in any system.”
