The crypto-currency craze hit the internet once again and many are turning to GPUs as a hardware solution. The interest in Ethereum mining for example, is causing shortages in Radeon 500-series video cards. NVIDIA and their partners are not going to be left out of this trend however, and soon word started surfacing of mining-specific cards on the way. The first one reported being an EVGA GTX 1060 graphics card a few days go. Now Chinese tech website Expreview is reporting that several more are coming using the same GTX 1060 6GB GPU.
Like the EVGA GTX 1060 graphics card reported earlier this week, much of the other video card solutions are only altered slightly from their original. The ASUS Mining P106-6G graphics card for example is based on the retail version of the GTX1060-O6G-SI and GTX1060-06G-Gaming graphics cards. The big difference is that it lacks any display output. It is outfitted with the same heatsink design as the GTX 1060 gaming graphics cards from ASUS, with IP5X ball-bearing fans.
The MSI cryptocurrency line is actually available in two versions. One is a P106-100 GPU and the other is a P104-100 GPU, according to VideoCardz.com who dug up the information. The P106-100 has 6GB of GDDR5 and is based on an MSI GTX 1060 6G GT OC graphics card. However, MSI is also offering a more powerful GTX 1070-based P104-100 mining GPU. This video card has 6GB of GDDR5X and has a single blower-style fan since it is based on the MSI GTX 1070 AERO.
Inno3D is offering two cryptocurrency cards based on the P106-100 GPU. One is the Inno3D P106-100 Compact, and the other is the P106-100 Twin X2. Both video cards are based on their regular GTX 1060 6GB options. As you might have gathered from the name, the Twin X2 uses two 90mm fans. It is normally designed for silent operation, but in this case it will be running 24/7. The compact P106-100 version only has a single 90mm fan, but it is a lot shorter. It measures only 172mm compared to the 218mm long Twin X2.
Asian-market specific brands such as Manli and Colorful have joined in on the craze as well. Manli has a dedicated GP106-100-A1 GPU mining solution that is devoid of display outputs like the ASUS offering. Colorful on the other hand has a P106-100 that retains a custom dual-fan cooler but is devoid of display outputs as well.
Since these video cards are going to be running 24/7, they are all running at reference clock speeds. This ensures that the performance is reliable and minimizes instability during operation.
