Crytek Removes Denuvo from The Climb

Just a few days ago we told you that Doom’s new update would remove the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from this acclaimed game, and now it looks like one of Crytek’s own titles has received the same treatment. Sources indicate that Crytek has removed Denuvo from its VR game, The Climb, and just in case you’re not familiar with this title, we’ll tell you that it came out on April 28 this year, and that it offers an immersive VR experience that has players climbing picturesque environments to the top. Just like Playdead and Bethesda, Crytek has not revealed the reason behind its decision, but we do know that DOOM and INSIDE have been cracked, which basically turned Denuvo into an unnecessary cost.

In The Climb’s case, the DRM’s removal could be somehow linked to the recent rumors that are going around, which suggest that Crytek is having some financial issues once more. According to some users on Reddit, the company has not paid some of its employees in months. With DOOM and INSIDE shedding Denuvo recently, The Climb is officially the third game to ditch this controversial anti-tamper technology, and we’ll just have to wait and see how many other games will receive the same treatment in the future.
