With Microsoft aggressively pushing into the education market space, Google is also doubling down to maintain their dominance. Ensuring that their Chromebooks are competing healthily with Microsoft’s newly announced sub-$200 Windows 10 notebooks. Lenovo, Acer and Dell have recently announced their updated ruggedized Chromebooks. However, there are also other smaller companies which are creating tailor made student-use Chromebooks such as CTL.
CTL is from Oregon and is announcing their new J41 which can go head to head with what Dell and Acer are offering. It features a soft-touch, anti-slip rubber texture. Moreover, it is drop-resistant (up to 70 cm) so it can withstand daily student use. Durability is not the only important feature for educational notebooks however. Portability is important too. Which is why the CTL Chromebook J41 only weighs 2.45 lbs and easily fits inside backpacks. The keyboard is also water-resistant, protecting it from accidental spills. Liquids simply exit via channels without entering the hardware housed inside.
The CTL Chromebook J41 runs Chrome OS on Intel’s updated N3350 (or N3450) processor. The CTL Chromebook J41 comes with either 16GB or 32GB of storage. It has an 11.6-inch matte HD panel display with anti-glare cloating. Furthermore, it is resistant to fingerprint smudges. The hinges on this display can flip open up to 180 degrees, laying flat on a table.
In terms of connectivity, there are two USB Type-C ports, two USB 3.0 ports, one Micro SD port, and a combo audio jack with an HD Web Camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
