Cubitek Mini Cube Mini-ITX Chassis Review

I have something a little different in the office today, the Mini Cube chassis from Cubitek. Cubitek are fairly new to the market, at least as far as their own products are concerned as their company was built on the expertise of many other local IT professionals. Launching their brand in 2010 they have set about bringing a some truly unique products that aim to tackle some of the toughest sectors of the chassis market, both gaming and compact design.

The Mini Cube is designed to target both the M-ITX and gaming areas of the market at the same time, with its compact size and high component compatibility it certainly sounds like it could be an exciting chassis to work with. Add to this that it is built from Aluminium with a total weight of just 2.3KG and is only 200 x 320 x 300mm in size, yet still claims to support cable management and perhaps even some water cooling.

  • 200 x 320 x 300mm
  • 2.3KG
  • Aluminium
  • Mini ITX
  • 3.5″ Drive Bay Hidden x 3 ( Max. )
  • 2.5″ Drive Bay Hidden x 5 ( Max. )
  • USB 3.0 Ready
  • 2 x  Expansion Slits
  • 80/90mm Optional Rear Fan
  • 120mm Optional Bottom Fan
  • PSU Standard ATX PSU ( Max. 150mm )
  • Maximum Compatibility VGA Max. 280mm long
  • CPU Cooler Max. 150mm height

This is the first time I’ve had the chance to review a Cubitek product, in fact it’s the first time I’ve ever seen one in real life! So I’m really looking forward to seeing what this chassis has to offer. It’s not exactly the cheapest on the market in this range with a price tag of (approx) £90-100 here in the UK, but much of this can be attributed to its aluminium construction and so long as the overall build quality and performance is high, the price tag can be justified.

“Mini Cube is the world’s first Mini ITX chassis supporting cable management behind the MB tray. With the fully aluminium Mini Cube, Team Cubitek gives Mini ITX gamers maximum performance in a minimum space.”

So let’s move along and see just what the Cubitek Mini Cube has to offer, will it be as good as it sounds or is it just another small box to put your components into?

The Cubitek Mini Cube doesn’t come in the most exciting box ever, not that its a big issue as it’s just a box at the end of the day. The front of the box features a high contrast outline of the chassis as well as the product name. There are some specifications and further details on the side and back but it was shipping from the other side of the world and unfortunately these has been buried under impossible to remove (without damaging the box) shipping labels.

The box contained a smaller box which houses the accessories required to install all your components, this mostly consists of rubber mounting grommets and screws, but you will also find the usual motherboard standoffs, screws and a small motherboard speaker, as well as a simple to read setup guide.
