You might have noted in recent weeks a pretty awesome looking game which is inspired by 1920’s-1930’s animation. Well, that game would be Cuphead, but if you’re hoping to play this on the PS4 you might want to look away now, as the developer has confirmed that the game will never be released for the platform.
Not a clue, but it seems clear that they have no intention of doing so. In a report via GameSpot, an unnamed developer has said: “Yes, this Cuphead game is exclusive to Xbox and PC (with Steam and Win10 versions at launch and a GOG release likely shortly after).” A presentative of the company who owns the IP to Cuphead confirmed to Eurogamer that it catagorically is “never coming to the PS4”.
Purely speculation, but one would have to assume something went on between the developer and Sony. To make this exclusive has very little logic behind it, unless of course spite, malice or a major slice of the pie has been offered to them.
Since Cuphead was originally promoted in at E3 in 2014, the development has taken quite a while. We are however, edging closer to a release. A scheduled date for the launch on Steam and Xbox on the 29th of September 2017.
The lack of a PS4 release will be disappointing to many. I wish I could say they might reconsider it, but the evidence very strongly points to a no.
It may have something to do with the game apparently also being offered via the Microsoft Store. I do know that Microsoft are keen to blur the lines between PC games and Xbox games. Some modern games have even allowed owning on one format allowing you play on the other.
With some big releases due for the Nintendo Switch, it does feel like there hasn’t been much good news for PS4 owners in recent months.
