Custom Gigabyte RX Vega 64 Video Cards Coming in October

Every Radeon fan is awaiting the arrival of custom RX Vega 64 graphics cards ever since the reference boards came out. However, an article from Tom’s Hardware Germany posted yesterday claims that there will be no custom RX Vega 64 video cards coming from Gigabyte. Some suggest the cause to be problems coming from AMD not being able to provide enough chips to partners. This in turn presumably frustrates some that they are skipping it entirely. Focusing their efforts on creating custom models for NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce GTX 1070Ti instead.

Custom RX Vega 64 Cards are Still Coming

However, Hardware.info contradicts that story from their own sources. Not only will there be a custom Gigabyte RX Vega 64 graphics card, there will be several variants ready. Ready enough for an October launch in week 42 or 43. Which is October 16 to 29.

The delay has to do with how custom cooling solutions mount on the RX Vega GPU. Since it uses HBM2 which has chips on the usual GPU area, mounting pressure can cause problems if not designed properly. Manufacturers cannot just simply slap on an old cooler from a previous generation video card using GDDR5 memory. Manufacturers ASUS and MSI are presumably facing the same issues, that is why their custom card options are similarly delayed.
