Photos of XFX‘ custom Radeon RX Vega graphics card surfaced a few weeks ago, but now it is finally official. Unlike Gigabyte which is only introducing a lone Radeon RX Vega 64 model so far, XFX is introducing an RX Vega 56 as well as an RX Vega 64.
The XFX RX Vega 56 (RX-VEGALDFF 6) and RX Vega 64 (RX-VEGATDFF 6) are identical looking, sharing the same massive heatsink design. This is a new revision of their dual-dissipation coolers, utilizing a pair of massive 100mm fans. This not only allows for better cooling, but quieter performance as well. This is due to the fact that larger fans do not need to ramp up at higher RPMs just to push as much airflow as their smaller counter parts.
What is unusual about the custom XFX design is that the PCB is actually lot shorter than the cooling system. The pair of 8-pin PCIe power connectors are actually in the middle, since the PCB only extends halfway the length of the card. What makes the card so big is the actual heatsink underneath the fans. There are six copper heatpipes distributing heat from the GPU across two sets of aluminium fin arrays. One radiator set for each fan. The fan on the front edge actually overhangs and does not blow directly to the PCB. Which is why the backplate has larger vents across this fan. So that it will be basically blowing air through.
