Cyborg F.R.E.Q. 5 Stereo Gaming Headset PC Review

So overall a great performance from Cyborg, their F.R.E.Q.5 headset head up perfectly in our tests, and while they not be the best headset ever in terms of sound quality, that’s no bad thing, performance is more than you would get with most headsets and that is something that is reflected in the price, while there are better headsets on the market, you can expect to pay more for that privilege.

The one big winning factor for this headset though has to be the build quality, with a mixture of metals and very nice quality plastics giving it a tough, stylish look and premium quality feel throughout and letting you know that a good portion of the money spent on this headset is going towards a premium design and manufacturing process. With no poor quality seems, no glue spots and premium quality braided cables I give the F.R.E.Q.5 a 10/10 for design and build quality.

My first experience with this headset was at a LAN gaming event, where quite a few of the pro gaming teams were wearing these sets, but not just the teams, there were also a lot of the general BYOC gamers sporting a pair of these, and I can see why they are so popular within these groups, one of the most used features that I noticed was that you can wear these around your neck, thanks to the rotating ear pieces that stop them feeling uncomfortable in this position and of course it stops them falling off your neck. Not an ideal listening position, but when your in a room filled with hundreds of people, you do occasionally need to listen to what people around you are saying without trying to find desk space for your headset every five minutes.

The gaming headset market is a tough one and there are no easy choices when it comes to picking a headset, the market is almost flooded with excellent choices for you to pick from, so while the F.R.E.Q.5 is an amazing headset, where you purchase it or not is really going to be down to personal taste. If you like the styling of it and you want a headset that would last the rigours of a typical LAN gaming tournament, then this is the headset for you, but its unique styling isn’t going to be to everyone’s taste. But thanks to its rock solid performance and robust sound quality I am more than happy to award the F.R.E.Q.5 our gamers choice award.
