At the time of writing, the D-Link DXE-820T Dual Port 10GBASE-T RJ45 PCI Express Adapter can be had at NewEgg for $344.99, at LambdaTek for £296.14, or through Geizhals starting at €387.68.
Conclusion
D-Link’s DXE-820T Dual Port 10GBASE-T RJ45 PCI Express Adapter allows you to expand your network capabilities tenfold on each port compared to normal Gigabit Ethernet that you find onboard these days. It isn’t the cheapest of upgrades, but it is one that will be very noticeable where ever large amounts of data are being pushed over a network connection and especially when a lot of users do so at the same time.
The setup couldn’t have been simple and the drivers don’t need any further configuration unless you want to do so. If you do want to change them, and you most likely do, then the included BASC software is an easy one to use while it gives you all the relevant information that you need at the same time.
This great performance can be achieved on distances up to 100 meters with the use of CAT-6A certified or better network cables. This gives you the freedom to place your switch in more locations as the distance won’t be an issue. The card supports all the advanced network settings you’ll want from 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.3x flow control, and 802.3ad teaming over Jumbo frame support to SNMP statistics. It also features an offline processor for offloading TCP, UDP, and IP checksums from your CPU.
Pros
- 10GBASE-T over RJ45 copper cables
- Up to 100m cable length possible
- VLAN, flow control, teaming
- 9K Jumbo Frames
- CPU checksum offloading
Cons
- None
“Overall the DXE-820T is an amazing card that is well worth the money. It delivers a great performance, has an easy setup, and all the feature you’ll want in a network card including CPU offloading.”
