Driver Disk and D-Link Network Assistant
The included disk features installers for D-Link’s Network Assistant and the D-View Module as well as Guides and a User Manual.
I chose to install the D-Link Network Assistant in order to initialize my new smart switch. The simple tool opens up access to all the basic configuration settings as well as being a discovery service.
Changing settings is as easy as selecting the switch of your choice from the device list and then hit the appropriate menu button for the function you’re looking for, which could be the General Configuration for example.
You get a final view on the changes that you’ve made before you apply them and you’ll also need to supply a username and password with the proper clearance.
Web-based Initialization
The web-based initialization wizard is a breeze to get through as it only has 3 pages and very few settings for you to make before you can start setting up your new 10 Gbps switch. You get to pick whether it should have a static or an assigned IP address.
You can enable Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) should you need it. It is a popular protocol for network management, used for collecting information from, and configuring, network devices, such as servers, printers, hubs, switches, and routers on an Internet Protocol (IP) network.
Last but not least, you’ll have to provide the details for your administrator user.
And that is it, the switch is ready for the final configuration and for us a view on the user interface as well as benchmarks.
The login screen is as simple as it could be, almost. It does provide multiple languages as the one option next to the reset function.
The general user interface layout is easy to navigate and quick to see. At the top you got a view of the switch with indication what ports are used and how fast they are. There’s a menu line in the middle with some basic functions and a tree view on the left side for all the actual functions.
On the next pages, I will be cropping the images so only the main area is shown in order to make the content better visible.
