So overall then its fairly clear than I didn’t like the flight stick and game, or is it? While yes I did have some issues with the flight stick and a fair few with the game, I did find some of the aspects to be enjoyable too, so lets get what issues I did have out the way and then we’ll take a look at the positive aspects of this title.
The stick is a little too sensitive, or at least lacks precision with minor adjustments causing you to overcompensate to make a maneuver, couple that with a game that has high sensitivity and you often find your plane takes a 90 degree turn when you only wanted to make a slight adjustment. The graphics are at best muddy, with some poor textures, shadows and on occasions a less than favourable frame rate.
So what was good you ask? Well I am impressed with the build quality of the stick, it may not be perfect but given the cost of a game, the stick is essentially under £50, in this price range it’s actually above par for flight sticks, especially when it comes to console peripherals, it has a really nice design and general feel to it too. The game while not perfect, is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it, the multiplayer is great fun too and does add a little extra to the experience. The game features some light hearted voice acting that isn’t too bad and the missions, airplanes and locations in the game are historic, so for fans of this era, flying games and of course aerial combat, there is little else new on the market right now that can give you these experiences.
But this brings me to my final and most important point, do I like the game? No I don’t, it’s as cut and shut as that, I don’t think the game and the controller are best suited to the format I tested them on (Xbox 360), the game is however available on Steam for PC, I think if you combined this game with your flight stick of choice, perhaps something like the F.L.Y.9 for PC and a PC copy of the game, you would have a lot more flexibility in terms of graphics performance and especially in terms of how well the game handles. It may not be for me but this is a decent flight stick for the money for consoles, I just think this game would be better suited to this flight stick if you could tweak things like sensitivity and dead zones in the games control options, perhaps via a title update MadCatz? Unfortunately because of this it just misses out on one of our awards this week, but if you can find a good deal on PC and already have a flight stick you love, this just might be the game for you.
