Dark Souls: The Card Game Gives Fans A New Way To Die

Dark Souls: The Card Game

I’ve often really wanted to get into tabletop card games. I do, generally, suffer from two problems in that regards. Firstly I have no idea where I would begin and secondly, I have no friends. Playing with yourself, while an amusing euphemism, doesn’t really work in card games. Well, except solitaire.

Steamforged Games are one of the major producers of such tabletop games and their latest offering certainly has my attention. Why? Because it’s Dark Souls: The Card Game

Shut up and take my money!

I make no secret of it, I am a massive Dark Souls fan. When the remaster was announced I immediately began dribbling.

Therefore, the release of a card game within the gaming world is going to represent what will likely be my gateway into tabletop gaming. Well, actually, that’s not quite true. I did try the Dark Souls board game which was released around a year ago and in truth, it wasn’t for me. It was harder to play than the game itself! Getting through Blighttown was less laborious than playing the board game.

How do you play?

The concept follows standard RPG card gaming. It’s based on desk building and progression. Paraphrasing Family Guy, you don’t win, you just do a little better each time.

As you process, random enemies will be drawn from the deck and your team progress and loot according to your victory. Knowing my luck I’ll draw a bunch of those skeleton wheels on my first go.

Where can I buy it?

Available on Amazon, Dark Souls: The Board Game is retailing for about £49.99. While that might sound a bit hefty, for tabletop board games it’s actually about what you would expect.

I must confess, come pay-day, I’m treating myself to this and if enough of you show interest here, I’ll give you a more in-depth look if you’re currently on the fence. What do you think? A fan of Dark Souls? Do you enjoy tabletop gaming? Think this combination will work? – Let us know in the comments!
