Dark Souls may be five years old now, but a healthy modding community keeps it fresh over the years. There is even a “Rekindled Edition” mod, consisting of over 350 tweaks, altering its base gameplay. The Rekindled Edition mod itself, drew inspiration from another earlier mod called “Alternative Starting Classes” by
According to the mod’s author LordofSandvich, he started modding aspects of the game which he initially found odd. However, describing all the changes implemented takes over 16 pages long and is close to 7,000 words. The mod changes armor, weapons, shops, items, enemies, bosses, and more. It even introduces some buffs and nerfs to the gameplay.
The mod so far has over 1,800 downloads with 43 endorsements. The latest version is 2.11 but if that isn’t enough, LordofSandvich also plans to introduce more weapon, shield and spell rebalancing. He also plans to make status effects more viable against bosses and fix small descriptive texts, making them more lore correct.
Even if you are not a Dark Souls fan, you have to admire the modding community’s dedication to the game. This is the kind of effort which extends the lifetime of a product. It also increases the value of the game for the consumer significantly, without charging a dime.
