Dark Souls 'Rekindled Edition' Mod Massively Overhauls Game dark souls: remastered

Dark Souls: Remastered

I am dreaming, I must be. Upon traversing the Abyss I forgot to wear my Artorious Ring and now I’m doomed to be teased for eternity by From Software and Bandai Namco.

Having just checked my bank balance, I can confirm that I am in fact not dreaming. Despite this, I am still absolutely delighted to announce that the original Dark Souls game is being remastered and is going to be released on PC and all major consoles.

This is, perhaps the best thing you could have told me today gaming wise. Except perhaps that Bloodborne was getting its PC port. I’m still waiting Bandai Namco…

In a report via Polygon Bandai Namco has confirmed the release and as part of the remaster, they have promised to update all the graphics accordingly from the 2011 release.

Where’s that epic sax guy? I need something of his level of awesomeness to proclaim this to the heavens!

What to expect

Well, it appears that this isn’t going to be a lazy remaster and believe me, being the major Dark Souls fan that I am, I’d be the first to complain if it was.

As part of the updated graphics, this is the improvements users can expect:

MICROSOFT XBOX

XBOX ONE – 1080p display at 60fps.

XBOX ONE X – Upscaled 4k at 60fps.

SONY PLAYSTATION

PS4 – 1080p at 60fps.

PS4 Pro – Upscaled 4k at 60fps.

NINTENDO

SWITCH – TV Mode 1080p at 30fps. Handheld mode – 720p at 30fps.

PC

The PC Master Race – Native 4k with all textures 2k unconverted running at 60fps.

Personally, I’m liking the sound of all of the above. Even the Nintendo Switch, while hardly impressive, still sounds good.

The PC version, however, is definitely the eye-opening one. Native 4k and unconverted 2k texture packs? I mean, hopefully, the PC version will be a damn sight better than the original Dark Souls. Fortunately, mods have helped.

Even so, this has just leaped past Ni No Kuni 2 and FFXV (PC) for my most wanted game.

Dark Souls: Remastered will be released on all formats on May 25th. I may, incidentally, have to take that week off.
