Dark Souls: Remastered
Well, this with Dark Souls has all been a bit of a rollercoaster of awesome news, better news and then a little disappointment. Despite it all, however, I’m still not complaining. Dark Souls: Remastered is on the way!
Now anyone who has read my articles will know, I’m a massive Dark Souls fan. As such, I could barely contain my excitement when Dark Souls: Remastered was announced. I couldn’t wait to see what is one of my most favourite games return with highly improved graphics. Seeing Sif in native 4k or indeed the fact that it offers 2k textures in unconverted form, it will be quite something.
Despite these improvements (and me being pleased to hear them) I’m also very firmly in the camp that believes Dark Souls 1 has actually aged very well. Even despite it being over 6 years old now, the boss battles within the game still largely look excellent.
No discount for PC owners
One of the main initial hype aspects about the remaster, however, was that owners of the original ‘Prepare to Die’ edition on PC would get a discount. A quite substantial one at reportedly 50%. In a report via DSOGaming, however, Bandai Namco has quickly and promptly squashed such rumours.
There will be no discount for owners of the ‘Prepare to die’ edition on PC for the remastered version. There will be no discounts, period!
In fairness, initially, the Bandai Namco website did appear to indicate such a promotion. So those who shared the story were not misguided or ill-informed. Although in truth, I think most people made certain assumptions due to historical examples. For example, when Bioshock Remastered 1 & 2 was released, PC owners got the ‘remaster’ for free.
While I can not pretend I’m not a tiny bit disappointed, at the end of the day, I don’t think I really mind. I’m still going to get to play Dark Souls: Remastered. This, I might add, at a point where I thought I might never play a ‘fresh’ Dark Souls game again.
Dark Souls: Remastered will release on PC and all major consoles on May 25th.
