Dark Souls: Remastered PC Version Is With Optimisation Specialist

Dark Souls: Remastered

Any PC fans of the Dark Souls series will remember the infamous PC port of the original game. Boy, was it bad!

There are, however, some mitigating circumstances to that. After releasing on the PS3 and Xbox 360, PC gamers really wanted to get their teeth into this title. There was just one problem, FromSoftware, the developer, had never worked a PC port, ever!

After pressure mounted, they finally began work on the PC port of Dark Souls, however, made no secret that they were very new to PC game development.

When it released, they sure weren’t kidding! It was awful. Firstly, because this is the most major point, it was practically unplayable, at least, with a keyboard and mouse. Secondly, the optimisation was awful. Blight Town, one of the major areas of the game was practically unplayable with slowdown as low as 3-5 FPS in some parts.

A fan-made tweak (which FromSoftware practically endorsed) and a controller fixed most of the problems.

It seems, however, that FromSoftware is taking no chances with Dark Souls: Remastered. The PC version is being given to QLOC. A company with an excellent reputation for producing some of the finest PC optimisation releases in recent memory.

PC Optimisation

In a report via DSOGaming FromSoftware has given the PC optimisation job to QLOC. Although you may not be familiar with their name, you will undoubtedly be familiar with their work.

In the recent past, QLOC has specialised in providing optimised PC versions of major AAA titles. These include Injustice 2, Dragon’s Dogma, Dead Rising HD Remaster, Resident Evil 6, DMC: Devil May Cry and Super Street Fight IV: Arcade edition.

Now while clearly, these are not all great games, there has, to my knowledge, never been a shred of criticism against the ports. If anything the PC port of Injustice has been rated as of the best optimisations ever produced.

As above, given how notoriously bad the original PC port of Dark Souls 1 was, I’m a little pleased to hear this has gone to a specialist. While they’re not guaranteed to get it right, the chances are a lot better now.

What do you think? Smart decision by FromSoftware? – Let us know in the comments!
