Dawn of War 3 in development, “MMO driven”

THQ director Danny Bilson has been in contact with Eurogamer, commenting on how the new Dawn of War game is coming along over at Relic Entertainment. Bilson has hinted the third game in the series will be an amalgamation of the first two games in the series, whilst still adding new features to differentiate the game from others of the genre.
According to Eurogamer the third installment will have a much larger strategic component to it, more of a global battle going on with little tactical things, sort of MMO-like. We should be seeing the game released sometime between August 2012 and February 2013, and although this is a broad time span, it gives us a rough idea of when we will start to see finer details emerge.
Earlier in the year, Bilson related the idea of DoW3 being “a more digital free-to-play experience” to the release and continuation of Company of Heroes online. Sadly CoHO was ended prematurely, thus suggesting Relic may think twice about any decisions about making DoW free to play online.
Dawn of war II had a standalone expansion, in which each player controlled one specific hero, fighting waves of enemies from the Warhammer universe. It would be interesting to see Relic continue this idea in DoW3, and I for one am excited to see the new features the game will bring.
Bilson commented saying “I feel like an ass saying it’s fantastic, but it is. And we’re going to do something with it you haven’t seen before. When you see it you’re going to go, whoa. I promise.”
Time will tell if Relic are pushing the right buttons for the PC crowd, and being a keen follower of the first two games, Dow3 will definitely be a purchase for me, but what does the 40k future hold for our eTeknix community? Leave thoughts and comments below!
