DDR5 Memory Expected to Hit DDR4 Pricing by Mid-2023!

Although never unusual when a new tech standard hits the market, when DDR5 first made its debut around a year ago with Intel Alder Lake, it came with a pretty hefty ‘early adopter’ tax which has seen their modules being notably more expensive than their DDR4 ‘counterparts’. – While prices for DDR5 have undoubtedly fallen quite notably over the last 3-4 months, however, it does still represent quite the outlay for people making the first transition to the platform.

Following a report via TechSpot, however, it appears that there is some excellent news in this regard as sources close to Asian manufacturing centres are reporting that they expect DDR5 memory to hit current DDR4 prices by around mid-2023!

DDR5 Pricing Expected to Fall Sharply By Mid-2023!

At this point, you might be wondering what has changed (or what is set to change) that will see the price of DDR5 fall so sharply over the next 6-9 months. Well, the short answer is that this isn’t some kind of magic bullet solution. The bottom line is that supply, availability, and variety of DDR5 memory have gotten better meaning that consumers have more choice, and, by proxy, can start shopping around for better deals. A factor which clearly only encourages manufacturers to get more competitive which, in usual situations, means dropping their price.

With that being said though, don’t expect any big cuts to start appearing until at least the early part of 2023. Even the source doesn’t expect it to hit parity with DDR4 until mid-2023. – Why though? Well, with AMD set to make the full-blown and exclusive transition to DDR5 with their Ryzen 7000 processors, as well as Intel’s new (and 2nd-gen DDR5) Raptor Lake models just a couple of months away, demand for modules will be fairly high until the end of this year.

All going well though, for those of you who have been holding off from making the transition, good things definitely appear to be on the way! – As we said at the start though, sometimes going early doors with tech is an expensive practice!
