Dead Island has been banned from sale in Germany. It’s no surprise to developers however:
“This isn’t unexpected, Germany has its unique regulations regarding video games and violence and the industry can only comply.”
There was no explanation as to why the game was banned, but we can only assume it due to the graphic violence, which is similar to that found in other games of a similar genre, such as Left 4 Dead.
Germany’s Federal Department of Media Harmful to Young Persons (the BPJM) classified Dead Island as “List B”.
“List B” contains the names of “youth-endangering media”. Media on “List B” cannot be sold anywhere in Germany, and anyone caught doing so is punishable by law.
Looks like the German gamers will have to fulfill their zombie slashing needs elsewhere.
