DeepCool AK620 Air CPU Cooler Review

Performance

I have to admit that despite DeepCool calling the AK620 a ‘high-performance’ CPU cooler, I suspected that although it would be decent, it probably wouldn’t quite meet my own personal remits for that particular evaluation. Similar to the Assassin III. However, the AK620 has hugely surprised me!

At stock levels, it provided us with some of the lowest temperatures we’ve recorded during our testing, and, we might add, while barely making a whisper. This is, without a doubt, a high-performance cooling solution.

Admittedly though, overclocking does highlight some of the limitations the DeepCool AK620 has, and possibly air coolers in general. Even with this though, the acoustic levels remained ridiculously low. Therefore, this leads me to believe that with such a huge amount of wiggle room available on noise, a definite compromise could be found in the PWM settings to get those temperatures significantly lower without making it any more notably loud.

Although not really reflected in our acoustic testing, however, when overclocked the DeepCool AK620 fans did make a mildly annoying sound. It wasn’t quite what you would usually expect to hear from a fan though. The best way I can describe it is like overhearing next door vacuuming their carpet. A low persistent hum. – When installed within a PC case, you probably wouldn’t notice it. However, I wonder just how aggravating this could potentially get over a greater period of time if you could hear it.

At stock levels though, it never happened once. The fans were perfect!
