DeepCool have today formally announced their new Gammaxx GT air cooler. The air cooler was revealed at Computex 2017 and is designed as a conventional tower cooler. Supporting practically every popular socket type, could this be the fan to replace the Coolermax Evo212?
The announcement has come via TechPowerUp and reports the following features.
Are you thinking that? I know I am. Being a fan of air coolers I often keep my ear to the ground for new releases. Having looked at the DeepCool Gammaxx GT, I thought the design was very reminiscent. Still not guessed? Well, to me, this looks an almost carbon copy of the excellent CoolerMaster Evo 212. The CoolerMaster Evo 212 is perhaps, even after 5 years, the seminal entry-level air cooler. So is the Gammaxx trying to replicate its success?
The similarities are too great to ignore. The overall design, the fan positioning, the 4 cooler pipes, its all just so very familiar. Even the specifications are almost identical, I will get to that shortly. The only real difference between the 2 seems to be the colour scheme.
The colour scheme is something Corsair would be proud of. Look at all that beautiful RGB. In fact, RGB doesn’t do it justice. With a reported 65,536 colour pallet, this is going to appeal to the fans of colour coordination.
Depends on the price. Having gone through the statistics I come away with 1 major key factor. Despite all of its similarities to the CoolerMaster Evo 212, it’s performance statistics comes out at performing slightly less well. In brief, the Evo 212 has a CFM circa 15 points higher. In addition, the inclusive Evo 212 fan can perform at a higher speed.
Unless this is planned as a direct budget competitor, the numbers are only adding up for the Gammaxx GT being a slightly worse performing Evo 212.
Given the Evo 212’s highly impressive price/performance ratio (£25-£30) this is going to have to be priced similarly to consider all the colours worth the drop in performance. We do not as of yet have the price or the actual performance results for this new product yet, but I can’t help but feel that unless this is competitively priced to what appears to be its main rival, this is only going to appeal to the fans of multi-coloured PCs.
