DeepCool Steam Castle mATX Chassis Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

At the time of writing there was no stock available anywhere for the SteamCastle, but it’s early days and last I heard the chassis was being prepped for retail release. Newegg do have a price holding page at £59.99, but the item currently shows as unavailable. The price is around the same as the BitFenix Prodigy, Aerocool DS Cube and a few offerings from the likes of Silverstone and a few others, so while it may not be cheaper, it is still competitive.

Overview

When I first saw this chassis it was still in prototype stage, there were rough edges, the lighting and colour schemes seemed less refined and I’d had a few beers that impaired my judgement. Now with a clear head and a fully finished product, it’s clear to me that DeepCool have really put in the tool time on this chassis. The finish is superb, I was expecting it to feel cheap and tacky, with stuck on plastic grills and other nonsense, but that really isn’t the case. The who thing is well put together, the soft touch finish on the exterior panels looks and feels great, the ventilation is uniquely styled and I think they’ve done very well to capture the spirit of Steam Punk design.

I personally think the modding community is going to love this chassis, there are plenty of fan and radiator compatible mounts, the hard drive and optical bays are completely removable and the internal frame is durable. I suspect we will see some really awesome Steam Punk mods over the next few months.

The chassis is nice and compact, but having room for four hard drives, water cooling, mATX motherboards, dual graphics cards, high-end PSUs, LED lighting and a few other bits and pieces means the SteamCastle is a very capable chassis. There are competing brands on the market with just as capable products for a similar price, but for those who want a stand out and unique design, there is really nothing else out there that looks like the SteamCastle.

“DeepCool may be new to the chassis market, but their SteamCastle is certainly gaining them a solid reputation. it’s unique, very well made and personally I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.”
