Dell is the latest manufacturer to announce their line of education-oriented Chromebooks with the new 5190. The Dell Chromebook 5190 has two variants: an 11-inch clamshell and a 2-in-1 convertible. The latest addition to Dell’s 5000 series Chromebook line also claims a battery life of up to 13 hours, which is perfect for all-day student use.
Setting the 5190 apart from other Chromebooks is its use of a USB Type-C port. This makes it much more forward-compatible with many devices. Plus, it also features stylus support for more tactile note-taking. Students will also love its optional world-facing camera, which enables them to take photos even in tablet mode.
Like all the latest Chromebooks, this notebook is sturdier than typical devices. Dell claims it can easily survive drops up to four feet, which is more than their competitors. In comparison, others only offer protection for up to a feet or two. Moreover, it can apparently also survive up to 10,000 “micro-drops” from a four-inch height.
Dell did not disclose screen resolution or what the hardware underneath is. However, it is most likely a 133 x 768 with an Intel Apollo Lake SoC. Acer and Lenovo recently announced their own line of Chromebooks with similar specs at around the same price.
The Chromebook 5190 has a starting price tag of $289 USD. It should be available by February 2018.
