For a long time I’ve been saying that I want an 8K monitor, and while that seems like complete madness, that pixel real estate is a wonder to behold for productivity. Sure, I would love to game at that resolution too, but that’s completely unrealistic even for the fastest gaming graphics cards on the market today, but we’re getting there.
The latest monitor from Dell clocks in with a resolution of 7680 x 4320 @ 60Hz, and at over 33 million pixels, it’s four times that of a regular 4K panel. Just driving this thing for day-to-day tasks is going to eat into some serious hardware. You’ll be wanting to invest in a powerful GPU like the 1080 Ti and one of the fastest processors on the market before you can reap the benefits of this lovely panel.
When you’re at the forefront of ingenuity, you get noticed. It’s no surprise the Dell UltraSharp 32 8K Monitor – UP3218K has received high praise and awards, including “Best Monitor” and “Best Pixels”.
The UP3218K uses an IPS panel, which delivers a 1300:1 contrast ratio, 400 nits brightness and a 6ms (gray-to-gray) response time. That’s pretty good overall, as this isn’t a gaming monitor it’s for professional use. However, with a price tag of around $5000, we wouldn’t expect many outside of the professional market to even consider whipping out their credit card for one of them.
“Dell PremierColor offers wide color coverage that meets major industry standards—100 percent AdobeRGB, 100 percent sRGB, 100 percent Rec. 709, 98 percent DCI-P3—for immaculate, unwavering colors,” Dell says.
The monitor is set to start shipping on April 14th and if you’re super eager to blow your life savings, you can place your order for one right here.
