Demon’s Souls Servers Set to Finally Shutdown

Demon’s Souls servers, after 9 years, finally set to close.
Demon’s Souls, it’s the Dark Souls games many fans of the series pretended they’ve played. As a big fan of Dark Souls, I must confess, I did not encounter Demon’s Souls until after I’d played Dark Souls 2. I was late, but I did play (and complete) Demon’s Souls.
At the time, this was 5-6 years after the original release and as such, the floor was not exactly crammed with summon signs. Frustratingly though, there was still a lot of invasions. I ‘died’ a lot.
Similar to Dark Souls 1, the traffic might be far from its prime, but there was still a heavy hardcore community.
In a report via Polygon, however, Bandai Namco is finally saying goodbye to the online servers or perhaps more accurately saying ‘you died’.
Surprised they were still running!
In fairness, I daresay some would be surprised to hear that the servers were still running. This was, after all, a 9-year-old game running on the PS3. This console in itself has been out of the mainstream for a while.
Many fans of the series have long since moved to its sequels on later consoles with the most recent being Dark Souls 3.
Now, let’s be clear here, as a game Demon’s Souls will still work. It’s simply the online aspects such as invasions and summons which will cease. While some will be grateful for the removal of invasions, they are, in my opinion at least, an integral part of the game. You’re not really getting the full experience without them.
All good things must come to an end though. After 9 years, I think it’s fair to say that Bandai Namco gave the servers a good run here.
The Demon’s Souls servers will officially close on the 28th of February 2018. If you still want to play this excellent game, with all the online features, there is still time, but you have to act quickly.
