Denuvo Alternative Valeroa Cracked Within Days
You may recall how a few days ago we reported on the existence of Valeroa. An anti-piracy alternative to Denuvo. For those of you unaware, Denuvo is a highly controversial piece of anti-piracy software. It is, however, somewhat contentious. Why? Well, because many people believe that it negatively impacts the performance of a game. A fact which, for the sake of fairness, is in dispute.
As such, with an alternative reportedly being touted, there were hopes that Denuvo’s detractors might have had an alternative to champion.
Well, it seems that Valeroa is just as frail as Denuvo. In a report via DSOGaming, the first game to use it has already been cracked within days of launch. This isn’t, however, all bad news!
A Tempting Target
We should note that as this was the first notable instance of the Valeroa anti-piracy technology being used, it probably was a very tempting target and as such, while it being cracked in a few days may sound bad, it’s actually relatively comparable. At least to what we usually see from Denuvo. Additionally, with its DRM-free system, I daresay that many people are still going to be backing this as a much better alternative in the long-term.
What Does The Future Hold?
Despite this anti-piracy software being apparently no more durable than Denuvo, I personally do hope that more developers will give it ago. As above, it’s operation does not require the user to be online to work. Additionally, it can be customised to only require an authentication check at start-up. This would remove the argument that such programs affect a games performance.
For those who read the initial story, the feedback was rather positive. It will, therefore, be interesting to see what people think with this update.
What do you think? Is this a better alternative to Denuvo? Is it just as bad but in a different way? – Let us know in the comments!
