It has been nothing but bad news for Denuvo recently, with their anti-piracy DRM getting cracked in just a few days on Resident Evil 7, and then Conan Exiles was released accidentally with the DRM disabled, allowing pirates to upload it to the masses with relative ease. Then they had their database leaked, showing years worth of death threats, developer messages and more from their web form. Overall, not their greatest start to the year.
The company has been hard at work on a completely revamped version of the anti-tamper technology, and after Resident Evil 7, it’s obvious that they need to change their code immediately. The new version isn’t likely to be patched into existing games, but upcoming games like Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 will be making use of it. Is it too late to add it to the new Ghost Recon, For Honer, and Mass Effect? We shall see.
The bar is being raised and that usually just sparks more interest in cracking the software, and so the battle rages on, but I guess we’ll see how long the DRM can keep the new games locked down at launch very soon. Either way, I’m sure the company feel like they could do with a victory right about now.
