Denuvo’s Latest Version Lasted Just Two Weeks

Denuvo Anti-Piracy

As far as anti-piracy measures have gone in recent years, Denuvo, for better or worse, is one of the most common names known. There is, of course, a reason for that. Why? Because when it is included in games, we hear that it has been bypassed often within days.

While Denuvo in recent has done better, the most recent version of the anti-piracy software has lasted only two weeks.

Lacking the staying power of Version 4.8

Denuvo had in recent months, began salvaging its rather poor reputation. As above, the anti-piracy system went through a terrible run of form with its protection being broken, often within days of release. Version 4.8 which was released about 6 months ago, however, proved to be a lot more stubborn than usual.

Protecting games such as Assassins Creed Origins, it took pirates around 4 months before they were finally able to beat it. Since then, we have of course seen newer versions, but in a report via PCGamesN, the most recent has now been defeated in just two weeks.

The future of Denuvo

The anti-piracy software is in desperate need of another big success. Given its hit and miss protection, it has already seen many developers either pick and choose when they use it or abandon it entirely.

Some users have even questioned the implementation of the software at all. Not because of what it does, but under suspicion that it causes in-game performance issues. I must say that the evidence to support this is not conclusive.

What do we think?

Game publishers clearly want to protect their products from illegal file sharing. It only makes sense that if a game isn’t pirated, people may be more inclined to buy it. There are, however, others who suggest that given the modern way of ‘demos’ going out the window, such ‘cracked’ versions give consumers an option to try before they buy.

Either way, I think that Denuvo needs another success like version 4.8 and soon. If for no other reason than to ensure developers that is does have a valid role to play.

What do you think? Should Denuvo just be abandoned? Can it re-built its reputation? – Let us know in the comments!
