The Destiny 2 hype trains continues to steam along. While we might all be looking forward to the new addition to the (mostly) awesome grinding team FPS, there have been some concerns that it would repeat the mistakes of the past. Well one things not being repeated is the seemingly ‘roulette wheel’ of random weapon and armour perks. The removal of this system has been made in an attempt to level-off the PvP playing field.
In the original Destiny, when loot dropped there was the slim possibility that the item would receive a bonus perk. It’s difficult to describe if you hadn’t played Destiny. Consider enchantment of items in World of Warcraft, in Destiny there was a possibility to get the weapon (as advertised), however there was also a slim possibility that the weapon would drop with a huge buff on it. Many considered this a problem in creating a fair PvP system and also formed part of the partly loved, partly loathed, grind of Destiny.
Luke Smith, the director of the sequel, has confirmed via an interview with Mashable, that this will be no more: “There aren’t random rolls on weapons anymore. Better Devils is a Crucible hand cannon [in Destiny 2], and what it has on it is what it has on it. Period. You can look at all the hand cannons now [for example] and track the data for everything. It’s gonna give us more flexibility to do per-item tuning,” with Luke Smith adding: “something we haven’t had before because of the way we were building the [first] game.”
Hard to say. It’s going to make things fairer it seems. Instead of a ransom person getting lucky while the constant grinder gets nothing, each person will seemingly get what they earn or deserve.
The hype surrounding Destiny 2 has grown ever since the confirmation of the sequel. This steam was heavily pressurised when a PC release was confirmed and that it wasn’t just going to be a lazy port. In fairness, Destiny has always seemed better suited for the PC than console. Being honest, I think that of all first person shooters. While multiplayer certainly can be easier on console, I feel the PC offers a level of integration and interaction you simply can’t get from a controller.
In addition, the utilisation of Blizzard to sell the game is a great idea. Not many people know that Blizzard and Activision are, more or less, the same company. I am very much looking forward to Destiny 2, I just hope the specs are fairly reasonable. Something tells me they might try to push the graphical boat out with this one.
