Developer Received Death Threats over No Man’s Sky Delay

Following the news that the release of No Man’s Sky is set to be delayed until August – two months after its initially advertised June release – Hello Games developer Sean Murray revealed that he has received death threats over the matter.

Taking to Twitter, Murray opened up about how difficult a decision it was to make – albeit the correct decision – to hold the game back by two months, and that he received death threats over it.

“New release date for [No Man’s Sky] got finalised late last night. It’s been a tough decision, but its [sic] the right one,” Murray tweeted.

“We’re happy with progress, but we need this time to make the game you guys deserve,” he added. “We couldn’t be working harder than we are right now.”

Murray admitted that he did not expect the news of No Man’s Sky’s delayed release would break so quickly after the decision was made, saying, “The Sony Blog post going live at 1am surprised us, but we wanted to let people know as soon as we could. Things are moving quite quickly.”

“New dates apply for PC and PS4. We’re running around trying to get all the official pages updated,” further tweets read. “Sorry I haven’t been able to say anything til now. With retail games, there are legal/external reasons why you can’t talk freely about dates.”

“Thanks to everyone for being so supportive. Apologies to anyone who feels hurt by this,” he wrote. “We’ll try make it up to you with a good game.”

“I have received loads of death threats this week,” Murray revealed, “but don’t worry, Hello Games now looks like the house from Home Alone #pillowfort.”
