The Nintendo Switch has been an incredibly popular console but almost 7 years after its initial launch in March 2017, it’s beginning to show its age and many are wondering what’s next for Nintendo? Well a simple answer to that is a newer and more powerful Switch, that we may even see launched this year as several games developers are already working on the console.
Nintendo Switch 2 Games Already In Development
Over the last year, we’ve seen a few hints towards the Switch successor with claims of PS4/Xbox One level performance as well as private demos at Gamescom 2023 which may have included NVIDIA DLSS technology. Moving onto today, via a report from TechSpot, it has been found that many games developers are already working on games for the Switch successor.
This information comes from a new GDC 2024 ‘State of the Game Industry report‘ which conducted a survey with 3,000 games developers. One of the survey questions was “Which platform(s) are you developing your current project for?” and one of the answers was “Nintendo Switch Successor” which was ticked by 8% of the survey participants which is around 240 developers.
So the Switch 2 is in the stages of games development which points quite strongly towards a launch arriving this year or maybe even early next year. This time round however, Nintendo does have some more competition in the handheld space though I doubt this is much of a concern for them due to their exclusive titles.
