Those of you who are familiar with the AquaNox series will definitely be glad to know that developers Digital Arrow and Nordic Games have launched a Kickstarter campaign to create a brand new game called AquaNox Deep Descent. The new game will be based heavily on the original series as far as gameplay and environments are concerned, which means that it will still be an underwater vehicle shooter that allows the player to control a multitude of customizable ships. AquaNox Deep Sea will support a standard and a 4-player drop-in co-op mode, while its multiplayer modes will include classic Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch games.
The storyline is set hundreds of years after a cataclysm that pushed humanity to settle into the oceans. The player will be able to explore the massive dystopian deep-sea world of Aqua and will experience a multi-layered ecosystem in which the balance of power changes regularly. As there is no third person perspective and visibility is sometimes limited, the developers plan to implement a free-view mode that allows the user to look around the cockpit, which reminds me of Elite: Dangerous.
AquaNox Deep Descent will be based on Unreal Engine 4, and its Kickstarter project has a $75,000 goal. With 20 more days to go at the time of writing, the campaign has already gathered $38,678, which means that the project has a real chance of success.
