Diablo IV has been revealed to feature three tiers in its battle pass alongside its $70 price tag and in-game store, a full demonstration of everything wrong with the games industry in 2023.
The information surrounding the Diablo IV battle pass was shared by Wowhead and is shown to feature three tiers. The first tier will be the free tier as with most battle passes allowing you to unlock a few free items as you play but as with most other battle passes, you will likely have to sell your soul and play constantly to make any progress. The second tier is the Premium Battle Pass at a price of $10 with 63 additional tiers on top of the 27 free tiers. Within the premium battle pass users can also get two full sets of cosmetic armour per class, premium currency, mounts and classic mount armour. Moving on to the third tier, the Accelerated Battle Pass at a whopping $25. For an extra $15 on top of the premium tier, you get 20 Battle Pass tier Skips and an additional cosmetic effectively being a pay-to-win.
Games that cost $70 and then also try to squeeze more money out of you with micro-transactions and these stupid battle passes are everything wrong with modern gaming. I don’t understand the mentality behind paying an extra $25 on top every season just for you to just get a few extra cosmetic items after spending $70 for the game in the first place. If you’re spending that much money on a game I expect to be able to unlock everything through just simply playing and not having to fork over even more money. I know that it’s a choice people make and in a way, it helps developers get the budget to provide more content but that doesn’t stop me from hating the system.
