The BVU5500 sadly isn’t available in Europe yet, but it is on its way and we’ll make sure to let you know once they are here. In the US, the Diamond BVU5500 USB3 to 4K Display Port adapter can be had for an MSRP of $69.99 through Amazon.
Conclusion
Diamond has managed to create one of those gadgets I didn’t know that I needed until I had it. Now I don’t know what to do without the BVU5500 USB3 to 4K Display Port adapter anymore. Adding a 4K capable DisplayPort 1.2 to almost any Windows or Mac powered system is just awesome and something that can extend the lifetime of older devices.
The setup of the BVU5500 was just as easy as the device is useful. A couple of seconds to install the drivers and the adapter worked. All that was left to do for me was to set my preferred desktop setup, extended, duplicate or single, and I was ready to work. The BVU also features audio jacks for a connection to a different audio device and is both small and light enough to carry anywhere you want.
There isn’t much to say about Diamond’s design choice on the BVU5500. It’s a little black adapter box with a cable, end of story, but a device like this doesn’t need to be fancy in any way, it just needs to be practical and work. The price isn’t too bad either, when looking at ordinary cable and adapter prices and you get a lot of functionality in an easy wrapping for a fair price.
Pros
- Easy to use
- 4K DisplayPort on almost any system
- Fair price
- 3.5mm Audio jacks
Cons
- Short and fixed USB 3.0 cable
“Adding 4K capabilities to older systems, notebooks, and tablets is an amazing feature. Diamond’s BVU5500 not only works as it should, it’s also very easy to use. A gadget I wouldn’t want to miss again.”
