Discord is introducing several tools to help creators earn money through their servers building upon the Server Subscriptions introduced back in December.
In a Blog Post from Derek Yang, Discord revealed more additions to its server subscription feature, allowing fans to subscribe to their favourite content creators in a Patreon-style format. One of the new additions is Media Channels which allow you to give your subscribers access to insider content, behind-the-scenes and exclusive content very similar to Patreon or other subscription platforms all from within a Discord server. eTeknix has a Patreon that links up to our Discord with specific roles and this looks as though it would condense Patreons offerings all within Discord.
Another new monetization feature is the introduction of a server shop. This shop enables creators to sell digital products such as e-books, guides, wallpapers and premium roles included with the server subscription. It’s another interesting feature that is currently in testing but with Discord being a pretty popular platform for creators, it’s a good way for them to interact with their community and gain monetary support directly from them in exchange for a role that gives them a different coloured name.
These tools are currently in testing and will be released fully over time, for more information you can read the full blog post and be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
