Discord Shuts Down It’s AI Chatbot, Proving Not Everything Needs an AI Chatbot

Apparently, Discord had an AI chatbot named Clyde, this is news to me even though I use Discord pretty much daily. Even if I did know it existed I still probably wouldn’t bother using it and it seems many others are in a similar viewpoint as Discord will be shutting down this bot in December.
Discord Shuts Down Clyde AI Chatbot
Clyde was an AI chatbot which launched back in March and was powered by OpenAI. It was experimental and would simply be input into your server for you and server members to use. You could ask it various questions, play interactive trivia games and get recommendations, very similarly to other chatbots. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the other day Discord released a support note on its Clyde AI Chatbot which states “Clyde will be deactivated at the end of the month. By December 1, 2023, users will no longer be able to invoke Clyde in DMs, Group DMs or server chats.”.
AI is impressive tech but ramming it into everything might not be paying off. The official reason for removing Clyde wasn’t shared but its likely didn’t grab enough attention for them to warrant keeping it running and its possible the bot was trained into saying some less than desirable things. Discord does say that they have more plans for future experiments maybe even more AI things.
